Harbinger of Growth, Revival & Renaissance – Mr. Carlos Ghosn
This
is the write-up to express the joy of an individual who aspires to become a
great leader, visionary, strategist, role model, myth breaker, revolutionist
for automobile era in emerging and global markets, invigorator, live-wire and a
wise man like Mr. Carlos Ghosn – Chairman
& CEO – Renault Nissan Alliance. (Pronounced as ‘Ghon’)
A Dream!
17th
July 2013, a great day in my life! Perhaps, a dream comes true moment! Mr.
Carlos Ghosn, visited our Renault Nissan Technology & Business Centre India
Pvt Ltd, (RNTBCI) Chennai facility and addressed the employees through the ‘Townhall’
meeting.
RNTBCI,
Mahindra City premises were all-set-ready for the arrival of their Chairman &
CEO. The surroundings of
Ascendas IT Park @ Mahindra City evidenced a tight security arrangements.
Fortuitous!
Select
employees were invited to attend the ‘Townhall’ with Mr. Ghosn; I was fortunate
to be there to listen to a cross cultural leader; who was born to Lebanise
parents in Brazil and studied in France and started his career in United
Kingdom and later became the CEO of Japenese automobile company. At this
moment, I must thank and convey my gratitude to Mr. Ramkumar Ramachandran (Ram),
my boss, the GM – Quality for our IT division, who had nominated me from our
Quality team.
It
was 2.00 PM, Ram and I rushed to the meeting hall where Mr. Ghosn is going to
felicitate us. To be frank, we were the first two guys to enter the grand hall.
Later, employees from other departments started entering to meeting hall.
The
time was 2.30 PM sharp, all the senior leaders, SVPs, MDs from Renault Nissan
Alliance companies were marching to hall and some-were seated on the front rows near the
dais. Until then, Ram and I were keenly watching the Televisions that were
nearer to our seats and whispering about the achievements of Mr. Carlos Ghosn
to each other. We were sitting on the 10th row from the front line
leaders. My wrist watch showed, 2.35 PM, our eyes were only on the television,
my hero entered the hall. RNTBCI’s MD – Mr. Karim Mikkee formally invited him with a welcome address lines and then stage was all to Mr. Ghosn.
Haranguing talk!
I
started to listening him with great amount of exhilaration and enthusiasm. Lot of energy and excitement overflowed
from our heart and soul. Nevertheless, no one could sit idly or make
their presence just physically in the place where Carlos is. He is articulate; his hands drive cars virtually! He connects with people; he cares for each and everyone; he listens to the janitor to the COO. He uses powerful
words. He makes emotional bondage with you even from a distance of 200 feet. He
devises strategy for the customers and not for the competitors. He inspires you
and he inspired me.
Leadership Potion from Mr. Ghosn!
- Do not be the brand no. 1 or
company no.1 in the world just by revenue; instead, become the no.1
company because ‘Customers love you’.a
- Do not want to be no. 1, but ‘deserve’
to be no. 1.
- Always contribute to create an
impact and connection to people.
On
identifying future leaders, one must possess these skills.
- Be a listener
- Connecting with entry level to the
top level people and creating an impact.
- Look for performance and
contribution; i.e. who makes the difference in terms of productivity,
creativity, customers delight., Do not get swayed away even if the person
is very polite, smart and communicative.
- Look for great things; he/she has
contributed as a team player.
